Badminton South Africa is on a roll delivering more grassroot activities to promote badminton as a safe sport during the COVID-19 pandemic.
From September 2020, Badminton South Africa has been working with its local partner Eyethu Badminton Development to run a series of activities for two months for the rural communities of Duduza.
The purpose of the activities are:
- To introduce Shuttle Time and AirBadminton to a wider audience in Duduza and surrounding suburbs.
- To raise awareness and understanding of badminton as a sport.
- To provide opportunities for locals to play and experience the new outdoor game – AirBadminton.
- To allow people the chance to interact safely while enjoying sports.
The main target audiences are children, youth, adults, parents and other potential local stakeholders, which include people with all levels of abilities.

Herculaas (Klaas) Visser, Shuttle Time Coordinator of South Africa:
“I look forward to working with an enthusiastic, committed and positive team to take badminton forward in rural South Africa. Shuttle Time and AirBadminton are the ideal vehicles to reach out to rural communities, develop abilities like leadership, choices and the effect thereof, teamwork and team building, concentration, hand-eye coordination, physical activities and fun. Helping to develop children of all ages and genders in rural communities will add to the legacy we leave behind.”
