During Shuttle Time Cup 2.0 in 2020, more than 700 children participated, although schools were closed for three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, Swiss Badminton has started Shuttle Time Cup 3.0, with more than 650 children participating halfway through the school year in Switzerland. This time, every participant gets a small gift from Swiss Badminton and that every participating class gets a chance to attend one of the two training sessions delivered by national team players at school. With badminton being a non-contact sport, teachers have taken the opportunity to incorporate badminton activities in their school curriculum and encourage more participation in these challenging times.
The feedback from teachers and children have been unanimously positive. The teachers are very happy to be able to offer badminton lessons to their students without any additional workload since everything is made available to them through the free Shuttle Time resources.
With the increased participation of children via the Shuttle Time Cup, Swiss Badminton is looking to create a pathway from schools to local clubs for children who would like to progress further in the sport. The federation believes it is a good initiative and good investment to encourage more children participation in the sport in a fun way.
