Since the BWF Shuttle Time Schools programme was first implemented in October 2019 (link), the Badminton Association of Ukraine (UBF) has attracted more than 300 teachers to attend and be certified as a Shuttle Time Teacher through the delivery of over 20 courses.
With Shuttle Time gaining popularity among the teachers and pupils from primary and secondary schools, UBF established a new strategy by incorporating the programme into university curriculum. With the goal of attracting university students to play badminton, the federation is planning to introduce the sport into the national educational system using the BWF Shuttle Time University course.
With the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, UBF delivered its first Shuttle Time University course via certified BWF Shuttle Time Tutor, Andrii Ohnystyi at the Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University in September 2020. In February 2021, more than 50 students from the Faculty of Physical Education completed the course. During the academic year, students undergo practical training.
The programme was highly appreciated by students and professors.
“It’s flexible and doesn’t require any previous badminton experience. Studying within the Shuttle Time University Course programme allows students, in addition to learning the techniques of badminton, to develop creative thinking, cooperation, respect for others and ways to solve problems,” said Andrii Ohnistyi.
Following positive feedback from the university, the federation has received interest from another local university to implement the course.
“Our goal is to start badminton league for university students. We want badminton to be popular and in demand among students,” said Alina Flint, the Shuttle Time National Coordinator of Ukraine.
